Stonewall, the gay rights charity, has announced the results of its annual workplace equality index, which includes 10 law firms for the second year in a row.
Law firms ranking in the top 100 gay-friendly employers include Baker & McKenzie (in sixth place), Herbert Smith Freehills (22nd) and CMS Cameron McKenna (40th). Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (which recently announced a new diversity network programme) and Pinsent Masons share ninth place. Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton is a new entrant in the list this year, ranking in 72nd place. Also included in the top 100 were Eversheds, Hogan Lovells, Norton Rose Fulbright and K&L Gates.
Simmons and Simmons, which has lead the legal sector in the rankings for the past two years, has been awarded ‘star performer’ status by Stonewall in recognition of its consistent commitment to creating inclusive workplaces. The firm, alongside seven other employers, is not included in the rankings of the top 100, but will work with the charity to define best practice and act as mentor to another employer.
