Magic circle firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has announced a new programme within its diversity networks, supporting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) employees.
Freshfields ranked within Stonewall’s top 100 workplace equality index earlier in the year. The firm also has a previously established advice group on LBGT issues, the Halo network. It is now seeking to co-ordinate the various networks, including three women’s groups and an alliance with LGBT parents’ network P3. The new Freshfields Champions network has been developed under guidance from BT, Deutsche Bank and JP Morgan, where support initiatives are already in place.
John Blain, litigation partner at the firm and senior supporter of the scheme commented: "There are many advantages both for the firm and more importantly staff of having an allies-network like Champions. People who are comfortable at work are happier and more likely to fulfil their potential. If they are able to feel totally comfortable in their environment then they can concentrate on maximising their talent to the benefit of everybody."
