Attorney general opens new law centre at NLS

Attorney General Dominic Grieve QC MP has opened Nottingham Law School’s (NLS) new Legal Advice Centre, which will support NLS’s existing, already much used, clinic.
All of NLS’s pro bono activity will be contained in the new advice centre, including student work on cases, community outreach and the Innocence Project, which aims to help overturn decisions for those who claim to be wrongfully convicted of a crime. Due in large part to the government’s destructive legal aid cuts, the existing clinic has seen a 100% rise in cases - from around 60 in 2012-13 to 120 in 2013-14.
Grieve said: "I’d like to congratulate the hardworking students who are combining their pro bono work with their academic or postgraduate studies. The importance of pro bono work should never go unnoticed, and I hope that through this hard work the students continue one of the finest traditions of the legal profession."
Professor Andrea Nollent, dean of NLS, said: "This year we celebrate 50 years of innovation in teaching and learning. We have an extensive record of delivering transformational courses and will continue to grow our reputation as a centre of excellence in legal education, both nationally and internationally."
