Insurance is one of the UK's most well-established and valuable industries and much of the litigation going though the courts will involve an insurer. Many barristers anchor their careers in insurance-based litigation or other methods of dispute resolution, representing either claimants or insurers in relation to everything from road traffic or industrial accidents; fires, oil spills and natural disasters; or all manner of commercial and construction problems. Reinsurance is insurance for insurance companies - in effect, coverage on a grander and more complex scale. As well as representing parties in dispute, some barristers will advise on the commercial decisions of insurance companies and the regulatory issues they face.
