Maples Teesdale are the UK’s leading commercial property law specialists, providing innovative, full service and truly partner led services to UK based and international clients

The main area of work is therefore commercial property – sales and purchase, development, leasing, funding etc. In addition the firm has specialist groups to provide clients with corporate, finance, construction, planning and litigation advice.

Trainees will normally spend time in each of the main specialist areas during their contract. The firm encourages team working and tries to involve trainees as much as possible both in fee-earning work and in marketing and training.

The firm normally offers trainees a permanent position as associate solicitor on qualification if we can offer experience in the area in which they want to concentrate. The firm expects that in due course a number of the current trainees will become partners in the firm.

You will receive the best training possible in a friendly and supportive environment. At the same time, we will ensure that your training contract is stimulating and rewarding.

As a specialist real estate practice, our largest department is our commercial property department. This is supported by five other departments: construction, corporate; finance, litigation and planning. Our trainees have the opportunity to gain experience, skills and knowledge across these different departments in four, six-month seats.

Our reputation as high quality, approachable and commercial lawyers attracts a calibre of client more readily associated with a large city firm. If you are successful in gaining a training contract, you will be involved in a variety of transactions with a high degree of responsibility.

During each seat rotation, trainees sit with a partner who acts as their supervisor allocating work to them and ensuring that they are also getting regular opportunities to work with a variety of fee-earners. They also play an active role in advising and developing their trainee throughout their training contract.

We want you to feel part of our team from the outset. The training is very ‘hands on’ and we aim to give you as much responsibility as you are confident to handle. You will be actively encouraged to become a valuable member of the team, drafting documents, doing research and attending client meetings.

For candidates sitting the LPC we expect them to have passed this in full before commencing their training contract. For those who take the SQE route we expect candidates to have sat and passed at least SQE1 before the commencement of their training. If trainees have sat the exam but are still waiting for the results of their SQE1 at the time their training starts then they can start, but their continued training will be conditional upon them passing the SQE1. We are very happy if prospective trainees have passed their SQE2 before starting their training with us. For those who still need to pass their SQE2 we will allow appropriate time off during their training contract for revision and sitting the exam.

Key amongst our values at Maples Teesdale is to ensure that we offer a friendly, flexible, supportive, inclusive and collegiate working atmosphere for our staff. Maples Teesdale LLP embraces diversity and encourages our employees to share their views and lifestyles, thereby broadening everyone’s awareness of differences. We believe in an environment of inclusion that encourages all members of the firm to flourish.  By valuing our differences, we build upon our individual, team and firm strengths.
