Trainee solicitor opportunity – specialise in pensions law

Are you a current trainee solicitor eager to carve out a career in a niche and intellectually stimulating area of law? Join our Leeds-based law firm client, a leader in pensions law, through an Accutrainee secondment and gain invaluable expertise working alongside industry-leading professionals.

The secondment is expected to last between six to 12 months. The exact duration would depend on your progress in the training contract/ qualifying work experience (QWE) and there may be an opportunity to continue on this role as a qualified lawyer.

About the role:

As a trainee solicitor with us, you’ll immerse yourself in the dynamic world of pensions law through a variety of key responsibilities:

  • Legal research & advisory: explore intricate pensions law issues and draft insightful advice notes for clients on topics such as GDPR compliance, trustee responsibilities, salary sacrifice schemes and regulatory sanctions.
  • Contract work: review, negotiate and refine terms in agreements like investment management, escrow and loan agreements.
  • Document drafting: prepare bespoke and precedent-based documents, including deeds, resolutions, member communications, complaints responses, and GDPR policies.
  • Contentious Support: manage case files, draft dispute resolution responses and assist with recovery of pension overpayments.
  • Client interaction: participate in trustee meetings and client calls, providing detailed notes and actionable insights.
  • Transactional support: conduct due diligence, advise on pensions aspects of M&A and corporate deals and ensure compliance with employment and pensions regulations.
  • Business development: represent the firm at industry events like the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association conference.
  • Administrative tasks: support client communications, document execution and preparation of case file indices.

The requirements are as follows:

  • you must be a current trainee solicitor OR an experienced paralegal who has completed at least 6 months of QWE; and
  • you should have an interest in pensions law and in completing your training contract/ QWE by getting exposure to pensions law.
