Trainee solicitor

Trainee solicitor

dgb Solicitors has built a strong reputation in Kent and the South East region. We have a diverse client base, and our offices are located at the beautiful historic Captain’s House in Chatham Maritime, Kent.

We offer personal legal services to local, national and international companies and individuals across our chosen legal specialisms, providing a premium service to all.

The firm’s open and collaborative culture promotes an inclusive work environment, which ensures that we continue to recruit, retain and motivate the highest calibre of people across the business.

We understand that our most valuable resource is our people, which is why we’re always looking for talented people to join our excellent team and we’re now accepting applications for trainee solicitors.

The role

At dgb we provide a bespoke and personal training experience, which we believe is required to thrive in the legal sector. The training contract offers complete exposure to all areas of law undertaken by the firm, fully and personally supervised by the partners and senior fee earners.

Here lies the difference between training at dgb and at a larger law firm. During each seat, our trainees have the opportunity to build a caseload and manage their own matters. Our trainees have immediate client facing opportunities and so will be expected to build relationships with our clients, which would not be possible at larger firms. We offer strength and depth in your training and exposure to a variety of work.

Our typical training contract comprises of four seats being offered over a two-year training period in various teams including residential property; employment law; corporate and commercial property; and private client, encompassing wills, trusts and estates.

Your training principal will oversee your training programme, while you spend between four to six months in each seat with a training supervisor. You’ll gain a wide range of experience and develop your professional skills, laying the foundation for a successful future career in law.

As part of the interview process, we provide an innovative summer vacation scheme throughout the months of July and August. This provides an excellent opportunity to experience work at dgb and offers an invaluable insight into the life of a trainee solicitor. This gives us the opportunity to get to know you as an individual and provides you with an opportunity to show your abilities and make an informed decision on whether dgb is the right place for you.

The scheme comprises a two week internship at the firm with opportunities to show and develop research methods, prepare letters of advice, draft documents, and observing client meetings. Participants will work closely with fee earners in each of dgb’s legal specialisms.

The candidate

All applicants for our training contract must have the following:

  • an LPC or SQE qualification;
  • a degree;
  • at least five GCSEs, 5-9 (equivalent to A to C) including English and Maths.

Desirable skills include:

  • previous experience of working within a legal environment;
  • IT skills; and
  • ability to cope with changing priorities and levels of workload.

We’re looking for candidates with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, good communication and organisational skills.

If you have the ability to demonstrate resilience, commercial awareness and are a team player with a passion for law and a dedication to succeed please send your CV with an accompanying covering letter to Carley Jennings, Office Manager at [email protected].  In addition, please complete the training application form which can be found at the following page https://dgblaw.co.uk/careers/job-application-form/ and specify your availability.
