Trainee solicitor

We specialise in a comprehensive range of legal services, including residential conveyancing, civil litigation and private client.

As a growing firm, with a new office opening soon in Wickham (2024), we are seeking three trainee solicitors to join our company; two in residential conveyancing and one in private client and civil litigation.   

We are also now accepting applications for two trainee solicitors for 2025 graduates. 

Job purpose

To provide a level of service to clients and intermediaries such that Andrew & Andrew is their preferred practice, and one which they will recommend to others.

The postholders will be expected to assist in the provision of legal services and the giving of legal advice to clients of the practice to the highest standard.

Specific core functions include:

  • assisting with the management of cases within various areas of specialism;
  • maintaining client files as required for supervision/audit and in accordance with the requirements of the Law Society and LEXCEL;
  • assisting other members of the team as required (including attending clients and witnesses, calculating losses, preparing bills, undertaking legal research, attending hearings);
  • achieving your objectives (you’ll be expected to work as part of a team with directors, solicitors, fee earners, other trainees and support staff as and when appropriate so you must be capable of delegating tasks and supervising where appropriate);
  • writing letters and producing documents with a good quality of presentation;
  • complying at all times with the obligations set out by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and other relevant regulatory bodies, particularly Solicitors Accounts Rules and CQS requirements;
  • keeping fully up-to-date with the relevant areas of law and practice;
  • recording time spent on fee earning and other tasks;
  • attending department meetings;
  • dealing with client queries by telephone, email, letter, face-to-face meeting or video-conference;
  • assisting with marketing strategies;
  • communicating with all departments cross selling the firms skills to existing clients;
  • undertaking relevant internal and external training where required;
  • meeting financial targets generating income for the practice; and
  • working at our various offices during the training contract.

Qualifications and experience 

Applicants must have the following:

  • an LPC or SQE qualification;
  • a degree;
  • three A Levels; and
  • five GCSEs, A to C including English and Maths.

Desirable skills include:

  • experience of working within a legal environment;
  • IT skills; and
  • ability to cope with changing priorities and levels of workload.

Desired personal qualities include:

  • the ability to work flexibly;
  • the ability to work under pressure and meeting changing deadlines;
  • a positive approach to team working;
  • good self-management; and
  • a sense of humour.
