Weightmans has been granted an alternative business structure (ABS) license by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
With its new ABS license, the firm is able to promote non-lawyers to its partnership and seek investment from businesses outside of the legal sector. As reported by The Lawyer, Weightmans has already confirmed that one paralegal fee earner will be joining its partnership.
Weightmans’ managing partner, John Schorah, said that the possibility of seeking external investment had not yet been discussed, but confirmed that it was a possibility in the foreseeable future.
