One of the United Kingdom’s oldest firms, Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co, has merged with Canadian firm Gowlings to create an international firm boasting over £400 million in annual revenue.

The new firm - Gowling WLG - will be made up of over 1,400 lawyers (including 600 partners) and other legal staff in 18 cities across Canada, Britain, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The firm will be led by a six-person international board, with three representatives from each of the founder firms.

David Fennell, chief executive of Gowling WLG (UK), said: "More and more, our clients are looking outward to global markets for new opportunities. They need a law firm that not only has expertise in those markets, but also understands their business and their sector, and can move at their pace."
