Professional support charity LawCare has released its annual statistics from 2015, revealing that it received just over 900 calls to its helpline, made by 496 individuals.
As reported in the Law Gazette, two-thirds of the callers were women and nearly 40% were trainees or those qualified for five years or less. The Times’ daily email, “The Brief”, also reported that the number of barristers calling the helpline rose by 8% compared to 2014, with increased pressure on junior lawyers at the criminal Bar cited as a possible reason.
The most common two problems were workplace stress (30% of calls) and depression (20%). Other issues included those relating to disciplinary matters, financial problems, alcohol, ethics, bullying or harassment, gambling addiction, career development and relationships.
LawCare’s free helpline number is 0800 279 6888. It is open from 9:00am-7:30pm on weekdays and 10:00am-4:00pm at the weekend.
