Global law firm White & Case LLP has set out the plans for its new solicitor apprenticeship offering, with the first cohort joining the firm next year to receive a salary of £32,000.
It’s believed that this is the highest salary currently offered to solicitor apprentices by any firm in the City. On top of the £32,000, an additional £1,000 set-up bonus will be available to those who are successful in their Launch into Law solicitor apprenticeship application. The set-up bonus is in place to support candidates with the costs of buying work clothes, for example.
The programme combines practical experience with studies. The first four years will be spent gaining experience across different legal practices, with one day a week spent studying at The University of Law, working towards completing the LLB (Hons) in Legal Practice. Years five and six will see apprentices continue to experience different legal practices, while completing part-time study and a period of full-time study with The University of Law to complete the Solicitors Qualifying Exam.
Complimentary food and refreshments while in the office, tuition fees and a season ticket loan are among the list of benefits that the firm’s apprentices will be eligible for.
The firm requires all solicitor apprentices to have achieved AAB at A level (or equivalent) and five GCSEs at five or above, including English and maths. The firm will consider mitigating circumstances for applicants who didn’t achieve the expected grades. Applications are open now and close on 19 January 2025.
