Leeds-based law firm Walker Morris LLP has increased the salaries of its newly qualified (NQ) solicitors by 6.5% from £61,000 to £65,000.
The salary increase aligns Walker Morris with Addleshaw Goddard's Leeds office. NQ solicitors at other law firms, such as Pinsent Masons LLP, earn £63,000. At Squire Patton Boggs (UK) LLP, NQs earn a regional salary of £70,000, while DLA Piper UK LLP offers £75,000 to those based outside London.
Meanwhile, first-year trainees at Walker Morris currently earn £31,500, with their salary rising to £33,500 in the second year.
Elsewhere, Burges Salmon LLP recently announced a salary increase for its trainees and NQ associates in its Bristol and Edinburgh offices. The law firm announced that NQ salaries in Bristol have increased from £68,000 to £72,000, while those in Edinburgh will see pay increase from £63,000 to £68,000.
Trainees based in Burges Salmon’s Bristol office will now start with a salary of £47,000, rising to £49,000 in their second year, while those in Scotland will begin on £40,000 and expect £42,000 in their second year. The salary increases follow the firm's 100% trainee retention rate, with all 24 trainees being retained earlier this summer.
