The University of Law has agreed to take over the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at Oxford Brookes University for 2013-14, following Oxford Brookes' controversial decision to end its LPC programme at the end of this academic year. The move is subject to SRA approval and student demand, but should ensure that part-time students currently enrolled on Oxford Brookes' LPC will be able to complete the course without having to move near, or commute to, a different campus. In turn, this should avoid the need for students to restart the course, as well as minimise upheaval to their housing, employment status and families.
The University of Law will also provide a full-time LPC course to meet the expectations of Oxford Brookes' LLB and GDL students. The full-time course will also be open to students who have completed the LLB or GDL at other universities.
A spokesperson for Oxford Brookes said: "We recognise the high level of law student concerns and we want to enable our students to complete their law studies with a quality law school with the same level of excellent support as they currently enjoy. We will enable The University of Law to deliver the LPC on our campus and continue to provide our facilities to the students."
Sarah Hutchinson, The University of Law's board member for business development, said: "We are committed to working in conjunction with Oxford Brookes to provide continuity and high-quality LPC provision for all Oxford-based students. We will be communicating directly with the students affected by the changes and our priority is to extend our high-quality LPC provision to those who may otherwise be required to relocate to complete their studies. It has been a challenging time for these students and we want to ensure as smooth a transition as possible. Any students interested in talking to us should contact our dedicated admissions team."
