University of Law announces new BPTC LLM to start in September 2017

The University of Law has launched a new combined Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) LLM programme.
Similarly to the already-established Legal Practice Course LLM, the new BPTC combines the traditional Bar course with an added master’s qualification. The first course will commence in September 2017, with applications for places opening through the BarSAS online portal on 12 December. As the course results in a master’s degree, students are also able to apply for the postgraduate student loan.
Jacqueline Cheltenham, national programme and student affairs director for the BPTC at The University of Law, said: “Our new BPTC LLM programme has been devised with one main aim in mind: to provide our students with the best chances of securing a highly-coveted pupillage at the Bar. The course is focused on real-life advocacy and litigation experience, with students working on actual legal cases with the support of our qualified supervisors, who are all professional lawyers. In such a highly competitive environment with pupillage increasingly difficult to secure, the new course provides our students with an additional edge. We are committed to producing exceptional advocates and we are the only provider that has a rigorous face to face selection process for choosing applicants for the BPTC to identify the brightest and most able candidates who have the best chance of gaining pupillage.”
