Newly qualified (NQ) lawyer salaries are on the rise, as global law firm Ropes & Gray International LLP boosts NQ pay to £165,000, up from £147,000.
This 12% increase, effective as of 1 January 2024 for the firm’s London NQ lawyers, excludes bonuses. At the same time, the firm also bumped its London trainee salaries. From 1 January 2024, first-year trainees will earn £60,000 (up from £57,500) and second-year trainees £65,000 (up from £62,500).
Meanwhile, Paul Hastings (Europe) LLP has also recently upped the salaries of its NQ lawyers in London by 5% to £173,000. Its first and second-year trainees are paid £55,000 and £60,000, respectively.
