Elite corporate firm Travers Smith has become the latest big firm to announce that it is embracing flexible working.
‘Agile working’ – the option for employees to work flexibly from home and outside the office when appropriate, is steadily taking off in the legal profession, with the Law Gazette reporting that firms including Baker McKenzie, Morgan Lewis & Bockius and Reed Smith have also announced flexible working initiatives in recent months. Another indication that flexible working is becoming increasingly mainstream is that it now has been given a sexed-up, corporate-speak name all of its own.
Travers Smith has now launched its scheme which gives all lawyers and staff the option to work flexibly, although the firm has stressed that flexible working arrangements will not impact on its commitment to excellent client service and the personal development of its lawyers.
David Patient, managing partner at Travers Smith, commented: “We are fully aware that new technologies and the demands of working across different time zones in today’s global market are transforming the modern workplace. It is therefore important to us to remain competitive and support the needs of our people and clients, and to continue to be able to attract and retain the greatest diversity of talent.”
