Three teams from the College of Law (CoL) have made the national finals of the prestigious Negotiation Competition, which will be held at the CoL's York centre on 23 March.
Teams from the CoL's London Bloomsbury and Guildford centres argued their way past over 70 other teams in the regional heats earlier this month, and will now compete to represent England and Wales in the International Negotiation Competition in July, which will be held in California. Teams are tasked with negotiating a transaction or resolving a dispute on behalf of a fictional client and are judged not only on their negotiation skills, but their preparation, flexibility, teamwork, ethics and treatment of their competitors.
Lesley Hill, director of the CoL's London Bloomsbury centre, said: "It is very important in today's global market that would-be lawyers have the know-how and skill-set to negotiate effectively across contexts, cultures and national boundaries. The Negotiation Competition is an excellent forum for profiling this skill and we are delighted that three of The College of Law's teams will be going forward to the finals in York. This result showcases the high standard of skills that students acquire on our College courses."
