The University of Law (ULaw) in Hong Kong has welcomed its first official cohort as students at the campus begin their part-time and full-time GDL courses.
The newly launched campus marks the ninth outlet for the legal education provider and the first outside of the UK. It was set up with the aim of creating new opportunities for aspiring lawyers in Hong Kong and will be led by inaugural Dean, Peter Crisp, who is also the ULaw’s pro vice chancellor (external).
Aruna Verma, programme director at ULaw’s Hong Kong campus, said: “This week we are welcoming our very first cohort and I am excited and proud to be a part of the University’s first international grand opening. This is a joyous occasion for ULaw, but it also marks a significant day for these students who are taking their first steps into a career in law. I wish all our new students the very best in their future careers.
“Teaching quality is at the heart of ULaw and we have applied our rich history and high-quality teaching standards to everything we have done at the Hong Kong campus. We are committed to continuing to focus on employability and strengthening our students’ capabilities, so that we can provide excellent entry routes into successful careers.”
Andrea Nollent, vice chancellor and CEO at The University of Law, noted that 97% of LPC students at ULaw go onto secure employment, a training contract, or further study within nine months of completing their course, and that the university intends to maintain this standard in Hong Kong.
Other postgraduate courses, including MA Law and the LLM Legal Practice Programme in a number of areas are also available at ULaw’s Hong Kong campus.
