The University of Law (ULaw) is set to deliver the Legal Practice Course (LPC) and LLM Legal Practice at the University of Southampton from September 2022.
The new partnership between the education providers offers students the chance to qualify through both the LPC and Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) routes at master’s level. The courses will be delivered at the Southampton Law School building with flexible part-time study options available from January 2023.
ULaw will continue offering a free master’s course for students studying the LPC so that they can add either an MSc in Law, Business and Management or an LLM in Professional Legal Practice to their studies at no extra cost.
To support aspiring lawyers’ postgraduate funding, ULaw is offering an introductory £500 Southampton Award as a discount on course fees for those commencing the LPC or LLM at the University of Southampton in September 2022.
Professor Werner Scholtz, head of Southampton Law School, said: "I am extremely excited about the collaboration with ULaw. ULaw is one of the largest providers of professional legal training in England and Wales and the collaboration with such a reputable service provider will allow Southampton to provide its students with a complete law journey to complement its research-based teaching. The initiative is part of our strategy of continuous growth as a global law school that is responsive to the needs of legal practice in the UK."
Professor Peter Crisp, ULaw’s deputy vice chancellor law, commented: “We’re pleased to be entering into this fantastic partnership with a Russell Group institution with a track record of training lawyers which speaks for itself. We are looking forward to having a successful and long-term presence in the Southampton legal market and to building great relationships going forward.”
The new legal courses expand ULaw’s reach into the South East, providing more future lawyers the opportunity to study outside of London.
