The University of Law has revealed a portfolio of Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) preparation courses, with details on course fees due to be announced within the next month.
Graduates choosing to qualify via the new SQE route will have the option to study its standalone SQE preparation courses – focussing entirely on preparation for the regulator’s assessment – or, alternatively, select from a suite of Masters programmes, which will include SQE preparation and will be eligible for postgraduate funding.
A 10-week booster course – ‘SQE Law Essentials’ – for non-law graduates will be in place to support the standalone courses, which will launch in January 2021. The Masters programme, which includes options for both law and non-law graduates, will be launched with the online SQE1 Preparation Course in September 2021.
The University of Law will also provide new study manuals, written by the school’s expert faculty, to support students throughout their studies. The law school’s LLB course already includes SQE1 preparation as an option via its modules in the second year and third year of study.
Alternatively, A level graduates can choose to qualify via The University of Law’s solicitor apprenticeship route, which will be available from 2021.
The law school’s pro vice chancellor Peter Crisp described costs as “very competitive”, with further details about the fees to be revealed within the next month, according to the Law Gazette.
Crisp also said: “Our programmes, building on our heritage of outstanding teaching and support for our students, incorporate the latest learning technology and analytics which we are confident will ensure exam success in the SQE.
Our focus is developing and supporting our students to get the careers they want by ensuring they have the skills, knowledge and behaviours employers are looking for. Our exclusive SQE Plus content will empower students to be practice-ready and lay excellent foundations for their legal careers. Importantly for students, our Masters programme will be eligible for student loans.
“The introduction of the SQE is a monumental moment for legal education. As the major provider of legal education in this country and with our focus on quality and student experience, The University of Law is leading the way with its new generation of SQE programmes.”
Meanwhile, The College of Legal Practice has unveiled a digital SQE programme, which will be available from Summer 2021 and includes preparation for SQE1 and SQE2, plus access to a practice master’s qualification.
