The College of Legal Practice and the University of Winchester announce new SQE partnership to prepare students for legal career

The College of Legal Practice (CoLP) and the University of Winchester have joined forces to offer an innovative new master’s in law (LLM) that’ll include preparation for the Solicitors Qualifying Exam (SQE) assessments and a direct pathway into the legal profession.

The University of Winchester opted to partner with CoLP due to its high level of expertise and experience in preparing students for SQE1 and SQE2 and giving them the skills required to start work in the legal profession. The course, which is eligible for postgraduate funding, will be offered on a full-time and part-time basis from this autumn, and is aimed at those with a law degree or a degree that had a significant element of law.

Not only will it prepare candidates for the centralised assessments, but the LLM will also help them to develop a broader understanding and critical awareness of current legal issues, and deeper insights into the relationship between law, state and individual.

Speaking about the partnership, vice-chancellor of the university Professor Sarah Greer believes the new course will “provide an excellent launchpad for students who wish to become solicitors”. Bill Davies, the dean of the faculty of law, crime and justice at the University of Winchester, added: “The placement/work experience and other modules being delivered by our faculty complement the College’s modules and will give our master’s students a valuable insight into the knowledge and skills needed for today’s practitioners.”
