Cooley LLP, a leading technology and life sciences US law firm, has announced the launch of its UK practice. The new office will include more than 55 lawyers, in what is one of the largest ever openings of a US law firm in London.
Cooley has 850 lawyers across 12 offices in the United States, China and Europe. It is well known for its work in complex international disputes and cross-border M&A, corporate and commercial transactions, particularly in the technology and media sectors. Justin Stock, former head of Morrison & Foerster's London corporate practice, will lead the new office. He says: "It is fantastic to be able to launch in the United Kingdom with such a great team already in place. […] I am energized by the sheer talent, personality and determination of all who are involved in this exciting opportunity."
Laurence Harris, who led discussions for the team from Edwards Wildman Palmer LLP that is joining Cooley, said: "Most of us have practiced together for years. We have all been struck by the quality and genuineness of Cooley's leadership and wider partnership, as well as our new London-based colleagues. We look forward to being part of building something special here in London."
Sarah Warnes, trainee recruitment & legal talent manager at Cooley, says: "Cooley has an enviable reputation as an elite and distinct global law firm. We in London are very much looking forward to working alongside our new colleagues to add to that enviable reputation. The opportunities for trainees now and in the future look promising, not least because of the amazing clients and work that Cooley already does. The commitment of Cooley to developing people and building a working environment where people genuinely enjoy working together has been refreshing. We are looking forward to what the future may hold as part of the Cooley team."
