Students from BPP Law School, The City Law School and the University of Law (ULaw) will be competing in the first Young Legal Minds commercial negotiation competition on Monday 14 October.
Each law school's team will be comprised of five students. The competition, developed by FreshMinds Legal, will present the teams a fictional business scenario in which each of the three teams will represent a different party. Each team must use their commercial negotiation skills to reach a win-win agreement, while achieving as many of their own commercial objectives as possible. It is designed to emphasise the importance of communication skills and business knowledge for modern commercial lawyers.
The students will be guided by mentors Huma Blunt, legal director of Reckitt Benckiser; Paul Van Reesch, vice president of the legal department at Coca-Cola Enterprises and Jeremy Henderson-Ross, legal director EMEA of Aimia. Their efforts will be judged by a panel consisting of Toby Hornett, legal director of Canon Europe; Mark Keenan, partner at Mishcon de Reya and Philip Walker, former COO of Capgemini.
