Students from The City Law School win Commonwealth moot

Two BPTC students from The City Law School have won the 13th international Commonwealth Student Moot, which marks the first victory in the competition for a team from the United Kingdom in 10 years.

Daniele Selmi and Matthew Sellwood travelled to Cape Town, South Africa for the finals of the competition, which were judged by the chief justices of Trinidad, New Zealand and the Falkland Islands. The other finalists were students at the University of Adelaide in Australia, and the debate was on the legality of nuclear power programmes.

Professor Carl Stychin, dean of The City Law School, said: "I am delighted for Matthew and Daniele. This competition pits the Commonwealth's best students against one another in front of some of the country's most senior judges. It is a fantastic accomplishment for them personally and for The City Law School."
