Students from The City Law School moot in Cape Town

updated on 16 April 2013

Two BPTC students from The City Law School have flown to South Africa to represent the United Kingdom in a disconcertingly timely Commonwealth Student Moot on the legality of nuclear programmes.

Daniele Selmi and Matthew Sellwood will be arguing on the sovereign rights of nations and the legality of nuclear weapons before a panel of senior judges in Cape Town. The two aspiring barristers secured their place by winning English Speaking Union National Mooting Competition, and from 14-18 April are competing against the best teams from North America, the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, Australasia and the South Pacific for the Commonwealth Shield.

Matthew and Daniele said: "We are delighted to be going to Cape Town to represent the United Kingdom in the Commonwealth Moot. The opportunity to meet some of the best mooters in the world, and to be assessed by and given feedback from senior judges, will be immensely valuable. The support that City Law School have given us so far has been invaluable, and we hope to repay it with a good performance."
