Solicitors’ ‘super exam’ decision delayed again as City firms question the need for change

The decision on whether or not to approve plans for a new solicitors’ ‘super exam’ has been delayed once again by the Legal Services Board (LSB).
The LSB has already delayed the decision on whether to allow the new Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) to go ahead once, after the Law Society criticised the proposals. Now, the Law Gazette reports that the LSB has once again put off its decision following criticisms by the City of London Law Society, which represents City firms and has said that the Solicitors Regulation Authority has not adequately explained why the change to solicitors’ education and training is needed.
The latest delay means that the LSB is taking the maximum allotted time to consider its decision, which is now not expected before 12 April.
