The Bar Council is asking students for their opinions regarding whether the Pupillage Gateway application system should open each January instead of April.
All chambers are required to advertise their pupillage vacancies on the Pupillage Gateway, which currently opens its application period in April, with deadlines for accepting offers falling in August. However, the Bar Council is proposing that the window should instead open in January and close with the acceptance of offers in April. It believes that the move would benefit applicants by allowing them to know whether or not they have secured pupillage before choosing to take the highly expensive Bar Professional Training Course.
Before making its decision, the Bar Council is inviting the opinions of barristers, chambers and students. If you want to have your say, complete the Bar Council survey on whether to change the Pupillage Gateway timetable by Friday 11 December.
