SRA and LPC students wait on London Met's judicial review challenge

updated on 13 September 2012

The SRA will not act to help LPC students at London Metropolitan University while the institution challenges the potential revocation of its 'highly trusted sponsor' status by the UK Border Agency.

Approximately 80 LPC students are thought to be affected by the allegations currently levelled at London Metropolitan University, which involve malpractice and negligence in the admission of international students, some of whom are alleged to have no right to stay in the United Kingdom and now face the prospect of deportation.

As reported by The Lawyer, 24 MPs have called on the Home Secretary to reverse the UK Border Agency's decision, while the Trades Union Congress has supported a motion from the University and College Union calling for non-EU international students to be allowed to remain in the country to continue their studies. Meanwhile, London Metropolitan University has issued a judicial review challenge to the UK Border Agency's decision.

In a statement, the SRA said: "In the circumstances, the SRA intends to wait until the outcome of that challenge is known before taking further action. In the meantime, officers remain in contact with London Metropolitan University and will continue to work with staff there to ensure current students who may be affected by the situation are not disadvantaged and, if appropriate, are able to continue with their studies."
