Leading law firm Paul Hastings LLP has partnered with diversity platform Aspiring Solicitors to host its first London office mentoring scheme for university students from diverse backgrounds, following conversations about racial inequality in the legal profession.
Both law and non-law students from diverse backgrounds will be eligible for the scheme, which will run from 15 February until the end of April 2021. Students will be able to get involved in a series of group workshops and one-to-one mentoring sessions offering insights on the application process, interviews, developing soft and commercial skills, plus more.
This mentoring scheme, as well as several other projects, is part of the firm’s commitment to promote diversity in its recruitment strategy and encourage further access to the profession for underrepresented groups.
Chair of Paul Hastings’ London office Arun Birla said: “This new scheme is a fantastic opportunity for junior lawyers at Paul Hastings and diverse students to partner with the reciprocal benefits of supporting diverse aspiring solicitors and educating our lawyers on diverse-lived experiences.”
As an ambassador for social mobility for the Law Society, Birla promotes role models from non-traditional backgrounds who have succeeded in the legal profession.
