Ogier tests paralegal route to training contracts which does not exclude 2.2 candidates

Ogier, the offshore firm with offices on Jersey and Guernsey, is piloting a scheme which places potential trainees in paralegal roles before offering them training contracts.

The firm has recruited six paralegals on 12-month, fixed-term contracts with the intention of offering them training contracts if they perform well. Ogier believes that the scheme will enable it to more reliably gauge the candidates' skills than the standard recruitment process at many firms. Speaking to The Lawyer, Sue Lincoln, Ogier’s HR director, said that the firm was also using the scheme to specifically give candidates who might not be otherwise afforded the opportunity to win a training contract a chance, such as 2.2 graduates with "credible" reasons for their degree classification not matching their potential.

At this early stage, so far one of the first intake of paralegals has been offered a training contract to start in September 2014.
