Nominations open for 2020 student pro bono awards

updated on 05 February 2020

Students and law schools have begun submitting their nominations for the LawWorks and Attorney General Student Pro Bono Awards 2020.

The awards celebrate the best examples of pro bono activity undertaken by students and law faculties across several categories. The ceremony, hosted by the attorney general, will take place on Wednesday 29 April at the House of Commons.

Any law school or individual can nominate themselves or others for one or more of the awards categories:

  • Best New Pro Bono Activity;
  • Best Contribution by an Individual Student;
  • Best Contribution by a Law School (Undergraduate and Postgraduate institutions); and
  • Best Contribution by a Team of Students.

The awards incorporate the Access to Justice Foundation award, for an outstanding contribution to promoting access to justice by an individual or law school, while the winners of the Advocate and LawWorks Law School Challenge will also receive their award at the ceremony.

On this year’s judging panel for the awards are:

  • Peter Farr, head of civil law policy, Ministry of Justice;
  • David Greene, vice president, the Law Society of England and Wales;
  • James Harper, executive sponsor, rule of law and CSR for LexisNexis UK & Ireland;
  • Josh Richman, senior editorial manager, LawCareers.Net; and
  • Leanne Targett-Parker, Chair, Bar Council Pro Bono Committee.

Have you been involved in a great pro bono project or do you know someone who deserves to be celebrated? Make your nomination by midnight on 17 March.
