In this brand-new LCN Podcast episode, LawCareers.Net’s Bethany Wren (she/her) is in conversation with Iko Onuh and Beth Harland, trainee solicitors at Brighton & Hove Council, as they discuss what it’s like to train in-house at a local council.
In the episode, trainees Beth and Iko discussed the similarities and differences between in-house to private practice, their day-to-day lives as trainees and what they’ve learnt from their experience so far.
Discussing the highlights of in-house trainee life, Iko said: “Local government is a unique working environment because you always have to keep in mind, when you’re giving advice, the political element of the role.”
Beth added to this, noting that the political aspect of working in local government “can be an advantage and a disadvantage.” She then continued: “You have to be aware and considered as you don’t want to say the wrong thing!”
If you’re interested in career options outside of private practice, this podcast episode is one for you!
