Legal Education Foundation announces new governors as well as its latest round of grants

The Legal Education Foundation (LEF) has announced the appointment of two new governors, while confirming that its latest round of grants total over £500,000.

Joining the LEF’s board of governors are Ailsa Beaton and Professor Tim Blackman; the new governors were previously chief information officer with the Metropolitan Police and pro-vice chancellor at the Open University respectively. Guy Beringer, chair of the LEF, welcomed the new board members: "Our focus on how technology and research can help us achieve our broader goals has led us to these two important governor appointments. We welcome them to the team and believe their appointment will help the foundation to make a real difference."

The LEF has confirmed that its latest round of grants supported 22 new projects; the foundation has now assisted 67 projects since launching in July 2013, with over £5 million in financial backing. Most recently, the Personal Support Unit received £125,000 – the charity provides trained volunteers to people facing civil court proceedings without legal representation.
