Lawyers support Inspiring Women campaign

Members of the legal profession - including Miriam González Durántez (partner at Dechert LLP) and representatives from the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEx) - attended the government’s latest Inspiring Women campaign event.

The national campaign, launched in October 2013, seeks to bring together successful women from a range of professions with female students from state schools to discuss the different jobs and career paths available. The career speed-dating event held at Basildon Upper Academy involved 100 students and 10 women from business. As well as meeting lawyers, students had the opportunity to meet Clare Balding, Dame Tessa Jowell and Samantha Cameron.

Jennifer Egginton, regional development officer for CILEx, attended the fair and said: "The event was fantastic; there were so many role models and industries represented that the girls could really be inspired and motivated. Seventy four percent of CILEx members are women and we are champions of social mobility."

Miriam González Durántez commented: "Girls need to feel free to make their own choices. The main purpose of the Inspiring Women campaign is to reassure them that there are many female role models out there willing to help and that any option they take in life is valid if it is what they really want."
