The legal sector’s mental health charity LawCare has launched its new Life in the Law 2025 surveys, which look at mental health and wellbeing in the legal profession. The charity is inviting individuals and organisations, including law firms, chambers and in-house legal departments to take part.
The surveys are anonymous and designed to help identify why people in the legal profession might be experiencing poor mental health and the “practical steps organisations and individuals can take to prevent this”, requesting information on:
LawCare CEO Elizabeth Rimmer said it’s “a real opportunity to improve mental health in the legal sector”.
Rimmer added: “By sharing your experiences, you’re contributing to building a more supportive and healthier working environment for the future. Together, we can make a real difference.”
The surveys will remain open until Friday 21 March and take around 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Individuals and organisations in the legal sector in the UK, Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man are being invited to take part. There are separate surveys for individuals and organisations.
Law Society President Richard Atkinson said: “The surveys are a great initiative that can provide useful insight into why people in the legal profession may be affected by mental health issues such as burnout.
“By participating in these surveys, we can gain a better understanding of how to support people in the legal profession and make a real difference.”
The mental health charity will share the findings and evidence-based recommendations in October 2025.
