This Mental Health Awareness Week, LawCare highlights “the critical role of physical activity in managing our mental health”, particularly in the legal industry, which is known for “its long hours, high stress and sedentary lifestyle”.
From 13 to 19 May, the mental health charity for the UK’s legal sector will highlight simple steps to help individuals increase the amount of physical activity they do, and share success stories from those in the profession who’ve taken action to improve their mental health through physical exercise.
Elizabeth Rimmer, CEO of LawCare, explained that the charity is using this week to champion the “power of movement and exercise – not just as a means to enhance our physical health, but as essential tools to reduce stress, improve mood, enhance sleep, and sharpen focus”. The charity is urging everyone in the legal community to take “one small, manageable step towards increasing physical activity”. These small steps could include incorporating walking into the commute to work, getting outside at lunchtime and making physical activity part of a daily routine.
On top of this, the charity is also hosting a free webinar about billable hours on Thursday 16 May, from 12:30 to 1:30pm. While highlighting the challenges that come with billable hours, the webinar will also outline some actionable strategies for effecting change.
