Law and business news round-up: Marmite, sterling, Facebook, Samsung

In all the apocalyptic, post-Brexit scenarios, no one was likely to have predicted the worst outcome of all – a lack of Marmite in some parts of the United Kingdom. Unilever and Tesco are fighting over prices and which company should shoulder the burden of increased costs, leaving unhappy consumers without their favourite products. What next? PG Tips? - The pound was subject to what was termed a “flash crash” last week, which was a dramatic overnight drop, the root cause of which may have been “fat fingers”!
- Facebook paid a (relatively) whopping £4.1 million in tax in 2015, as opposed to a paltry £4,327 in 2014. It put this down to having grown its UK business, but may also be as a result of the outcry in 2014 when the tiny amount was revealed.
- Several FTSE 100 companies have reported being “frozen out” of policy discussions with officials in Brussels, raising fears that they will be punished due to the Brexit vote.
- Holy exploding phone! Samsung has ceased production of its Galaxy Note 7 phone after it failed to fix the problem that caused its battery to catch fire in some instances. The company took a hit on its share price, as you’d expect.
