Law and business: commercial news round-up 29.10.15

Amid the building excitement around Halloween, don’t get so entirely caught up with how to be the most convincing zombie at the party that you forget what October is really all about – preparing to meet future employers at law fairs and wow them with your commerciality. To keep you on track, cast a (cycloptic) eye over this collection of (not very) ghoulish stories:
- TalkTalk has been having a very bad week, following news that its customer database was hacked and, as a result, its share price fell steeply.
- BP faces some stark decisions, as news of a 40% quarterly profit drop is made public and the looming spectre of job cuts (mostly in the United States) becomes a reality.
- More than 2,000 Morrisons staff plan to sue their employer for failing to prevent a data leak that caused thousands of personal and financial details of staff to be made available online.
- A government-backed report on gender diversity in FTSE companies has recommended that one-third of all board positions should be held by women by 2020.
- Finally, the Guardian asked law students – are you commercially aware? Evidence that you’re reading this would suggest the answer is yes.
