Law and business: commercial news round-up 23.10.15

What better way to round off the week than with a few topical business news stories, collated with the intention of getting you to think about the broader commercial issues that law firms’ clients may be grappling with. No, no – you don’t have to thank us:
- The solar energy trade body has proposed adding just £1 to people’s annual energy bill to help save the renewables industry in the face of government subsidy cuts (for more on what’s happening in renewables, read this week’s Burning Question from DLA Piper).
- The crisis in the UK steel industry worsened this week as Tata Steel announced that 1,200 jobs would be cut in Scotland and Scunthorpe; the company blames cheap imports, high electricity prices and the strong pound.
