Law and business: commercial news round-up 17.12.15

This round-up of the week’s commercial news includes some big stories – keep an eye on them as they develop over the holidays. This is our last compendium of 2015 and your next one will be here on Thursday 7 January, but in the meantime, read on for some insight into these key commercial stories:
- The US Federal Reserve’s “Hamlet-like” indecision over whether to raise interest rates has ended. Interest rates have been raised for the first time since 2006 and markets have initially responded positively, but analysts have urged caution.
- As buy-to-let landlords seem to be falling from chancellor George Osborne’s favour as a special interest group, the Bank of England has also raised concern about the high levels of lending to landlords.
- Despite signing up to prioritise low-carbon energy at the climate change talks in Paris, the government has decided to cut financial subsidies for household solar roof panels – a decision which has been criticised as “misguided”.
- The Telegraph has revealed what its finance team believes to be the top 20 best countries in the world in which to do business.
