Yesterday’s budget is on everyone’s lips, with analysis of who will benefit, who will suffer and general comment on what it means about the state of the UK economy. For more big-picture stories with an economic slant, turn your attention to this vetted selection:
- The fight between Apple and the US government continues, with Apple claiming that use of the word “corrosive” about its practices by the department of justice is part of a sustained smear campaign.
- In an ironic twist, the FCA has given the go-ahead for “robo-advice”, at the same time as RBS cuts 220 jobs that will be replaced with automated technological solutions.
- Sony and the estate of Michael Jackson have signed a deal which sees the record company buy the singer’s stake in a joint music publishing venture for a cool $750 million.
- Fashion retailer Ted Baker is enjoying a massive 20% rise in profits, thanks in part to strong Christmas sales and its plans for more overseas expansion.
