A nuanced appreciation of the vast business world may be a bit much to hope for at this stage, but developing an interest in – and a broad understanding of – the commercial pressures and topics that will be a part of clients’ everyday lives is important. Start today:
- In cheerful economic news, living standards in the United Kingdom have returned to pre-recession levels, although analysts remain cautious, with warnings that the pace of recovery is likely to slow down.
- Kanye’s line of trainers for Adidas were revealed as being a better investment than gold; pairs on Ebay have sold for as much as £3,499 – a return of 1,300%.
- Following a 10-month review and much speculation, HSBC confirmed that it would be keeping its headquarters in London; the government is said to have made a number of concessions to ensure that it remains.
- In contrasting HSBC news (and following last week’s pay freeze climb-down), the bank said that if the Brexit were to happen, around 1,000 of its jobs would be moved to France.
- All aboard – carriage for one! Toymaker Hornby’s chief exec has stepped down, amid a number of profit warnings. News of his departure caused share prices to rise dramatically, by over 35%.
