Law and business: commercial news round-up 02.07.15

Don’t let the soaring temperatures distract you from the task at hand; namely, improving your understanding of the commercial world. Herewith some of the big business news stories from the last week (feel free to read in a darkened room, feet in a bucket of icy water, covered in damp towels, if you prefer):
- Supermarket sweep: Tesco outperforms expectations but shareholders resist executive pay, Sainsbury’s cuts the price of milk to match Aldi and Lidl, and Morrison’s grows its market share for first time since 2011.
- The Office for National Statistics has announced that UK growth figures in the first three months of 2015 were 0.4% rather than the predicted 0.3%, due in large part to the construction industry doing better than expected.
- Dixons Carphone has signed a deal with US telecoms company Sprint to open and manage 20 stores in the United States.
- The Airports Commission has released a report backing a third Heathrow runway, which it says will create 70,000 jobs and £147 billion by 2050; critics say that the noise and vehicular pollution would be "catastrophic" for the city.
