The Law Society has launched a series of interactive commercial awareness webinars for second-, third- and first-year students, which will be delivered by dual qualified lawyer Denis Viskovich in March.

Denis, who has more than 20 years’ experience working for investment banks and companies in the City, will give students the chance to improve their commercial awareness skills via interactive teaching and group exercises. The webinars will consist of a presentation, an interactive case study and an engaging Q&A.  They provide students and trainees with an insight into working as a lawyer in the dynamic, fast paced international banking/corporate environment. The webinar will also cover the importance of commercial awareness and the management of legal risk in the commercial world.

The first-year students webinar is scheduled for Wednesday 2 March – interested students can sign-up for free via the Law Society’s website.

The second- and third-year students webinar is scheduled for Wednesday 9 March – interested students can sign up for free via the Law Society’s website.

Webinar attendees are expected to participate in interactive scenarios to:

  • learn the importance of commercial awareness;
  • find out what commercial awareness is;
  • understand the legal commercial awareness that City law firms expect law students to have;
  • learn the four phases of the economic cycle;
  • understand the definition of recession and its impact on businesses;
  • hear a finance overview including risk versus reward, FTSE100; and
  • gain an understanding of what fixed and variable costs are for a business.
