Large firms to offer advice on LGBT inclusion to smaller counterparts

In a pilot LGBT mentoring scheme being launched in April by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), 10 large law firms have signed up to offer free help and advice to small and medium-sized (SME) firms on how to become more inclusive employers.

As reported in Legal Futures last week, the 10 large firms are all highly ranked int the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index. The firms are Baker McKenzie, Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Clifford Chance, CMS, Dentons, DWF, Herbert Smith Freehills, Hogan Lovells, Pinsent Masons and Norton Rose Fulbright.

Aseia Rafique, the SRA’s equality, diversity and inclusion manager, said: “We want to help SME law firms develop their approach to lesbian, gay, bi and trans diversity, and access the business benefits that come with being a more inclusive employer.”

Around 20 SME firms have signed up to be involved. The firms will receive free advice for an average of two hours every month on everything from advocacy and community networks to recruitment and retention.
