LSBU launches free law clinic manual

London South Bank University (LSBU) has released a manual on how to establish and manage a drop-in legal advice clinic.
The Drop-in Clinic Operational Manual provides an alternative to the clinical legal education 'letters of advice' model and explains how a university can set up and run a face-to-face, drop-in legal advice centre. The manual is free for any higher education institution considering whether to establish its own legal advice clinic for the purposes of educating students and helping its local community.
As reported on LSBU's website, Lucy Scott-Moncrieff, president of the Law Society, praised the value of university law clinics at the manual's launch: "There are two great virtues of clinical legal education: it teaches you how to be a lawyer and it teaches you about the realities of access to justice and its importance to the rule of law. The other virtue of clinical legal education is that you will learn about the importance of access to justice in upholding the rule of law. If you have not already been radicalised in this way, your experience in clinic will radicalise you and make you a life-long champion for justice and access to it for all."
