Kennedys solicitor apprentice Tegan Johnson has been awarded ‘Apprentice of the Year - Level 5+’ at the BPP Apprentice of the Year Awards 2021.
The BPP annual awards acknowledge the apprentices and employers who have gone the “extra mile throughout the delivery or work during an apprenticeship” to produce "incredible work" and make a positive impact in their workplace despite the challenges of covid-19.
Tegan, who joined the global law firm in 2017, after studying part time on the LLB at BPP, is now a Level 7 solicitor apprenticeship in the commercial construction and real estate team in the firm’s office. Her role involves specialising in advising developers, contractors and consultants on commercial matters.
Tegan expressed her delight in a LinkedIn post: “This is a real achievement given the number of BPP higher apprentices across a number of sectors, and I couldn’t be more surprised. It’s been a challenging year, but also one that’s pushed me to grow and to persist.” In the post, she also thanked the “wonderful team” at Kennedy’s: “who help me be the best I can be – but who also make work so enjoyable!”
Helen Johnson, construction partner and Tegan’s supervisor said: “The team are all thrilled by Tegan’s achievement, and feel it reflects the hard work and contribution she makes to the team. We are excited to support Tegan as she takes the next steps in her career.”
Kennedy’s offer legal apprenticeships that are aimed at school leavers who have completed A levels or equivalent studies and are looking to embark on an exciting career and earn as they learn. This programme has been running for eight years and has seen the firm recruit 84 apprentices - 75% of whom are still at the firm.
Just last year they launched an alternative route to qualifying as a solicitor that incorporates the Solicitors Qualifying Exam and will form a 30 month Graduate Solicitor Apprenticeship. This route allows UK graduates to begin earning immediately at the firm without the need to complete the Legal Practice Course.
All first place and runner up apprentices and employers will receive an award certificate and a letter of congratulations from BPP.
