Junior Lawyers Division committee elections commence

updated on 17 October 2013

The Junior Lawyers Division of the Law Society (JLD) is running elections for positions on both the executive committee and the national committee.

There are a number of positions open for nominations on both committees. These are:

  • vice chair of the JLD (two year role, becoming chair in the second year);
  • three executive officers positions (open roles, ie, non-designated positions);
  • one executive officer for students; and
  • three student representatives on the JLD national committee.

In order to stand for a role, candidates must be a member of the JLD by the close of nominations. In addition, only student members are eligible for the student positions. Membership of the JLD is free and automatic for those who fall into the following categories:

  • students registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (ie, LPC students, post-LPC students working as paralegals);
  • trainee solicitors; and
  • solicitors up to five years qualified.

If you wish to apply, you must submit a nomination form by 12:00pm on Monday 21 October 2013; this must be supported by two other junior lawyers. As part of the form, candidates must include an election statement explaining why they are right for the role of JLD executive committee member. You will also need to confirm whether you are available to attend an executive training weekend from 7- 8 December 2013. All nominees will be considered and voted on by the current executive committee and local group representatives, with the results announced on 11 November.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Law Society website, as well as a list of frequently asked questions with further information.
