The small window of time between the football-related jubilation of Tuesday night and the football-related anxiety of Saturday afternoon is the perfect opportunity to distract yourself with some of this week’s biggest business stories. Here is our collection for this week:
- Despite the fact its “heart and soul is in the UK”, the boss of Jaguar Land Rover has warned that a bad Brexit deal will threaten the company’s plans for £80 billion investment in the country, and may cause factory closures.
- Real estate agents are feeling the pinch; a recent report estimates that around 7,000 high street agents are in “financial distress”. Reasons include sharply falling house sale numbers throughout the country, but particularly in London, and the growth in popularity of online agents such as Purplebricks.
- Superdry is enjoying a hot summer, as it announces a second ‘special dividend’ in as many years based on its “delivering double digit growth in sales and profits in its full-year results”. The company’s share price was up 12% as a result.
- And finally, the perfect combination of World Cup success and a long run of hot weather has supermarkets rubbing their hands with glee, as they enjoy increased sales of beer, BBQ food and ice cream. Long may it continue – on all fronts.
